    The City of Raleigh is hiring a Police Records Supervisor that will manage the day-to-day operations, oversee the police records system, and supervise personnel within the Records Unit at the Raleigh Police Department.  This role involves the direction and administration of all functions of the police records operations that includes acquisition, classification, storage, and dissemination of police records and documents. As a Police Records Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to supervise all Records Unit personnel which include staff, volunteers, recruits, light-duty officers and administrative-duty officers.

    If you are a college student pursuing a career in forensic science, the North Carolina State Crime Lab (NCSCL) offers internships at all laboratory locations and in all forensic disciplines.

    The internship program runs throughout the year and coincides with university semesters.

    • Internships at the NCSCL are unpaid, and interns are required to provide their own housing and transportation.
    • Interns are required to work a minimum of 20 hours/week during the normal operating hours of the laboratory (8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday-Friday).
    • Interns are placed in all three laboratories.  However, all disciplines are not available in every laboratory.  Available disciplines are as follows:
      • Raleigh Laboratory:  Toxicology, Drug Chemistry, Trace Evidence, Forensic Biology, Latent Evidence, Firearms, Digital Evidence, Evidence Control
      • Triad Regional Laboratory:  Toxicology, Drug Chemistry, Latent Evidence
      • Western Regional Laboratory:  Toxicology, Drug Chemistry, Latent Evidence, Firearms, Forensic Biology

    Candidates applying for an internship with the NCSCL must:

    • Be at least a rising junior in, or graduate of, a four-year degree program
    • Be majoring in a natural science (e.g., chemistry, biology, forensic science) or a computer-related field. We do not accept Criminal Justice majors into the internship program.
    • Successfully pass a background check

    • Spring internships – October 1
    • Summer internships – February 15
    • Fall internships – May 1

    The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Internship Program is designed to provide students an opportunity to supplement their classroom education with practical work experience. Internships are available throughout the year (fall, winter, spring and summer semesters). The Division provides a limited number of internship opportunities in Juvenile Court Services, Detention Centers and Youth Development Centers.

    To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Attend a college, university, community college or technical institute;
    • Have a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) or greater on a 4.0 scale; and
    • Be classified as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student. Court Services interns must be classified as a junior to be considered.

    Probation/parole officers enjoy annual salary increases with a step pay plan.

    In your first year of work as a North Carolina probation/parole officer, you will earn $41,800, then after one year of satisfactory employment, your salary will be increased to $44,517. After six years, you will earn more than $60,000.

    Job Requirements (not inclusive list):

    • Be a citizen of the United States
    • Hold a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, correctional services, psychology, social work, sociology or other related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • Applicants with a Human Service degree, such as Political Science, Social Science or similar subjects must attach a copy of his/her college transcript for evaluation.
