Required Qualifications:
· Proficient at training Basic Obedience, E-Collar Conditioning, Odor Imprinting, basic and advanced Search patterns both on and off leash
· Proficient at Handling SPEDD's or PBEDD's.
· Must be capable of Instructing a Basic Canine Handler's Course.
· Extensive understanding of behavior shaping and changing, dog drives (prey, retrieve, hunt) and principals of conditioning (positive and negative reinforcement and punishment)
· Excellent Canine problem-solving skills
· Ability to troubleshoot canine deficiencies and develop corrective actions based on requirements.
· Ability to obtain a DOT License and operate Canine Transport Vehicles including trucks with trailers.

Department: Campus Police Applications Accepted Through October 27, 2023, or Until Filled Effective Date of Employment: November 13, 2023 Length of Employment: Full-time, 12 months Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,004 Minimum Requirements: Must be a certified North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer and have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, public administration, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Extensive progressively responsible experience in police work, including considerable supervisory and management experience at the rank of Captain or above and three to five years of experience in providing college campus, civil, or institutional security, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous supervisory experience in providing college-level security or other law enforcement-type work is highly desirable. Applicants must have extensive knowledge of law enforcement best practices, leadership, budget, and personnel management; considerable knowledge of state and federal laws, local ordinances, policies, and written directives of the police department and of law enforcement principles, practices, methods, and equipment. Applicants must have the ability to meet annual in-service training requirements; and skill in the use of firearms and other police equipment as required to maintain state certification and comply with state mandates. The applicant must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills, and demonstrate the ability to act with sound judgment in routine and emergency situations. Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license with no previous convictions other than minor traffic violations is required. The applicant must be a certified locksmith or possess the ability to be certified within 6 months of employment. Bilingual in English and Spanish and a National Career Readiness Certificate are preferred.

Distinguishing Features of the Class Administration commander is responsible for planning, supervising, and reviewing the activities of all personnel assigned to a major division, which may include the administration support functions. Supervision is exercised over a staff of sworn personnel primarily through subordinate supervisors. Work involves participating in the preparation of the budget by recommending personnel and capital needs for a division; directing or personally investigating citizen complaints about Police personnel conduct and services; commanding the Police Department when assigned as duty Commander, by organizing and directing personnel and equipment during major events or emergencies; interacting with college organizations and representing the Police Department on various committees and boards; coordinating activities with other law enforcement agencies, and participating in various City wide projects and/or programs. An Administration Lieutenant recommends comprehensive goals and objectives and is responsible for their implementation and results achieved. This class is responsible for performing duties as required. This person would conduct the following duties and additional ones as required by the Chief.
Desirable Experience and Education Graduation from a community college with degree in law enforcement supplemented by specialized training in investigations procedures and extensive experience in law enforcement investigations work including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements Before assignment to sworn duties, employees must posses a valid North Carolina driver's license and have obtained certification by the North Carolina Sheriffs Training and Standards Commission as a certified law enforcement office.
